February's Literature and Theatre

Li(thé)rature du mois de Février
Once a month, we will offer you a book and a tea to enjoy.
Ru is composed of very short stories linked together almost like a refrain: the first sentence of each chapter often echoes the idea that ended the previous one, thus bridging all the events the narrator has experienced: her birth in Vietnam during the war, her escape with the boat people, her arrival in a small town in Quebec, her studies, her family ties, her autistic child, and so on. The author's life is filled with charming, unique people, difficult or whimsical situations lived with equal joy, and she masterfully plays with the reader's emotions, oscillating between the tragic and the comic, the prosaic and the spiritual. Written in a feminine, maternal, warm, poignant, and highly original tone that transcends the traditional slice-of-life narrative, Ru reveals a great talent for storytelling, where memory becomes a pretext sometimes for play, sometimes for reflection. A story of an adorable and candid survivor, a story that contains all the grandeur of life.
