Tea and chocolate pairings

Accords thé et chocolat
Taking a tea break is a moment of sweetness and pleasure, so why not make it even richer by adding a few squares of chocolate to your tasting?
Just like cheese and wine, the tea and chocolate pairing is a must! But let's take the time to combine them properly without one overpowering the other. The blend must be subtle so that the harmony of flavors is perfect!

Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate has the most character and intensity. Its robustness depends on the percentage of cocoa. When tasted, dark chocolate leaves a pleasantly bitter aftertaste on the palate.
Dark chocolate pairs perfectly with black teas, spiced teas, and teas with roasted notes like caramel, for example.
Oolong and bergamot teas are also an excellent choice to enjoy with dark chocolate.
Finally, the higher the percentage of cocoa, the stronger the tea should be. Conversely, if you choose a mild tea, it's best to opt for a dark chocolate with sweeter, more delicate flavors.

Milk chocolate

Milk chocolate is naturally milder and sweeter than dark chocolate. There's also a wide variety of milk chocolate flavors available: hazelnut, caramel, almond—the list goes on. To enjoy a light tea and milk chocolate break, we suggest choosing a green tea or a lightly oxidized tea.
You can also choose any flavored tea, but avoid choosing teas with overly sweet flavors that might mask the taste of your chocolate.

White chocolate

White chocolate is so smooth and sweet that it melts in your mouth! This chocolate is perfect to accompany milk teas, matchas, lattes, iced teas… all milk-based mixtures (plant or animal).
You can also enjoy it with rooibos tea!
Ultimately, it all comes down to personal taste! There are no hard and fast rules for pairing chocolate and tea; we recommend the most harmonious combinations, but when it comes to chocolate and tea, the choice is yours :)
