Preparing the perfect cup of tea is a true art. Some teas are forgiving: fruit teas, for example, tolerate boiling water very well and forgive a few extra minutes of steeping. But this isn't the case for all teas.
With green, white, or oolong teas, the dosage becomes essential. Too few leaves, and the tea lacks character. Too much tea, or water that is too hot, and the delicate aromas give way to bitterness. Finding the balance means providing each tea with the ideal conditions to express itself.
The right starting point
For a standard teapot of approximately 350 ml, a simple rule is generally agreed upon:
one teaspoon per person, plus one spoonful “for the teapot”.
More specifically, experts recommend between 2 and 2.5 grams of tea per 100 ml of water . Of course, each variety has its own specific requirements, often indicated on the packaging, and your personal preferences are just as important. At T•Surprise, we believe that a good tea is first and foremost one you enjoy.
