The holiday season is fast approaching, are you looking forward to it? Looking forward to spending wonderful moments with family and friends, sharing delicious meals, exchanging gifts, and enjoying these precious moments…
The holiday season is first and foremost a time for indulgent meals, from stuffed turkey to chocolate yule log... in short! To minimize the holiday "damage," prepare and detoxify your body before the holidays with a "pre-tox"!
We'll also be offering a second article with our best tips for post-holiday detox :)
Rule number 1: drink plenty of water!
It can't be stressed enough: drinking between 1.5 and 2 liters of water a day will help detoxify, hydrate, and purify your body. Water is your body's best friend, especially your liver's. You can certainly add lemon or fresh mint to your water! However, be careful not to add any sugary products, as this will have the opposite effect!
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables!
Eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day… or more! That's the recipe for feeling good in your skin, good in your body and above all providing your body with all the vitamins and minerals it needs.
Compotes, purees, in salads, raw or cooked, in smoothies... Fruits and vegetables can be eaten in all their forms to delight young and old.
To get the most benefit from fruits and vegetables, steam them and avoid adding too much fat.
Limit your consumption of meat and dairy products
Avoiding meat for a few days will do your body a world of good! Meat, in general, requires a lot of energy to digest and puts a heavy strain on the kidneys. Replace meat with legumes, fish, or tofu to make up for the protein deficiency.
Dairy products should also be consumed sparingly. Dairy products are difficult to digest, and cow's milk is particularly indigestible due to its high lactose and saturated fat content; the stomach is unable to digest it properly. Furthermore, the casein naturally present in cow's milk forces the body to produce more antibodies, which can lead to inflammation. Intolerances to cow's milk proteins are steadily increasing, so try to reduce your consumption as much as possible!
Engage in regular physical activity
Exercise is good for your physical, mental, and overall health… for everything, really! You don't need to do extreme sports; simply walking, running, getting some fresh air—do your body good, and it will thank you!
2-3 hours of physical activity per week is enough to make you feel better in your body! So let's go for it :)
During the holiday period, take the opportunity to get out your snowshoes, skates, skis… what could be better than going outside and breathing fresh air?
Reduce sugars and fats
Just like with meat or dairy products, it's clear that when you undertake a detox program, you'll need to reduce your intake of sugars and (refined) fats. It's important not to restrict yourself too much to avoid bingeing on the first chocolate you see at Christmas; we recommend removing sugars and fats from cakes, candies, processed foods, etc.
Olive oil, hazelnut oil, vegetable margarines, and the sugars from fruits and vegetables are of course completely recommended!
Drink some tea!
Finally, don't forget to drink tea! Green tea is obviously the most recommended during a detox program, for all the well-known benefits. More information about green tea can be found here. here
Depending on your preferences, black tea is also very good when it comes to burning fat!
Finally, end your day with a herbal tea of your choice to relax :)
