What is lavender tea?

Lavender tea is actually an herbal tea, which involves steeping dried lavender flower buds in water.

There are over 40 species of lavender - the English and French varieties are the most used for making lavender tea. Lavender flowers and buds are purple, resulting in a slightly purple drink.

We recommend that you always use food grade lavender to make sure it has not been treated with pesticides.

How does lavender tea taste?

Is there caffeine in lavender tea?

No! There is no caffeine in lavender tea, it is actually an infusion. This is a great drink to have at night before bed because it will not keep you awake and will help you relax.

Is lavender tea a real tea?

Lavender tea is NOT real tea. Real tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant and since lavender comes from the lavender plant it is therefore not considered real tea.

Virtues and benefits

Lavender is often used in tea blends to promote relaxation as it helps reduce anxiety and depression. It is soothing and helps promote sleep.

It has also been shown that inhaling lavender oil and essence will reduce menstrual cramps and is excellent for relieving digestive ailments.

Ingredients and preparation of a lavender tea

  • Boil the water (100 degrees Celcius)
  • Put lavender in the teapot (about 30g) and add hot water
  • Cover the teapot for ten minutes
  • Filter the lavender buds and pour the hot tea into a tea cup
  • Enjoy!
